Fig. 1 Rencay OpenVector book cradle 180A1
Equipped with a DiRECT 8k³ camera system, this system is used for the digitisation of historical books and atlases. The book cradle is adjusted so that no mechanical pressure is exerted on the books.

This system is used for the digitisation of 2x DIN A0 originals. It features a very low table and a higher vacuum table for holding originals of different sizes. A DiRECT 16k³ camera system enables a resolution of more than 300 dpi for 2x DIN A0.
Since spring 2024, a Rencay DiRECT 24k³ camera system has been used for the digitization of archaeological objects – the most famous being the Nebra Sky Disc.
The decision to use the Rencay camera system is based on its extremely high resolution of 2808 megapixels, as well as the fact that the system operates without the Bayer interpolation or other image enhancement algorithms commonly used in digital cameras. As a result, the digital images always match the original down to the finest details.

A reproduction column is used, which can be precisely controlled and to which the Rencay DiRECT 24k³ camera system is attached.
Illumination is provided by six LED panel lights arranged in a ring

The quality and fidelity of the digital images produced by the Rencay DiRECT 24k³ camera system allow for objective and enhanced documentation of objects, enabling more in-depth research." (quote from Dr. Christian-Heinrich Wunderlich, Head of the Restoration Workshop).

The MAST Foundation starts digitising its art collection with a RENCAY scanning system with several workstations.
The artworks are diverse objects including large-format photographs, e.g. by Gurski. The formats range up to a size of 3 x 5 metres, which are scanned wall-mounted according to their presentation. A DiRECT 24k³ camera system with 2808 MPixel resolution is used here.
Formats up to 2-fold DIN A0 can be scanned horizontally at another workstation. This workstation also has smaller repro tables up to DIN A0 and a book cradle for valuable books and other bound originals.
This fantastic museum was completed in 2023 and offers art exhibitions, workshops, a cafeteria and much more.
In collaboration with the University of Bologna, Rencay has digitized selected Da Vinci drawings in the Uffizi Gallery in Florence.
In addition to high resolution and best color rendering, the focus here was also on the paint application. For this special point-shaped LED lights were used. Thus, the shadow cast of the paint application could be determined with μm accuracy. Here, the Rencay system scored points, as the structure reconstructed by the algorithms in a digital camera with Bayer filter matrix depends on the image content and this leads to large errors. With the help of the Rencay scan so extremely high-resolution 3D views were created on the Touchtable to admire.
